Track Your Shifts and Your Tip Income
If your real income is base pay plus tips, hours alone don't tell you much. Timely tracks your shifts for free and — with Elite — lets you log the tips you took home on top of your hourly rate, so your earnings history reflects what you actually made.
How tips work in Timely
- Track your shift and hours as normal — clocking in and out is free and unlimited.
- Add a Tips entry to a shift with Elite, and it counts toward that shift's earnings.
- Other entry types work the same way: Bonus, Commission, Holiday Pay, 2x and 3x pay.
- Your totals then reflect base pay plus everything you added, not just your hourly rate.
What to know before you download
- Timely does not calculate tip-out — log the net tips you actually kept after tipping out.
- There is no separate cash vs. credit tip reconciliation; a tip entry is a single amount.
- There are no per-section or per-table tip averages, and no tip-percentage analytics.
- Timely does not handle tipped-minimum-wage make-up pay or tip-credit math.
- If you need a full tip-pooling calculator, Timely isn't that — it's a shift tracker that lets tips count.

Frequently asked questions
Is tip tracking free?
No. Logging tips uses the pay-entry feature, which is part of Timely Elite. Tracking your shifts, hours, and base earnings is free.
Does it calculate tip-out?
No. Timely has no tip-out or tip-pooling calculator. Enter the tips you actually kept after tipping out, and that's what your earnings will reflect.
Can I track cash tips separately from credit tips?
No. A tip entry is a single amount on a shift — there's no cash vs. credit split or reconciliation against your paycheck.
Will it show my average tip percentage?
No. Timely doesn't calculate tip percentages, per-section averages, or per-table analytics. It tracks the totals you log.
Do I have to report tips to the IRS?
Yes — tips are taxable income in the US. Timely isn't tax software, but it keeps a running record of what you logged, and Elite lets you export it.
Will my employer see my tip data?
No. Timely is a personal tracker. Your data is yours, and your manager has no access to it.
